England - Peak District to Yorkshire Dales

The carved Circle Cross Head (right) was found in the Wharfe riverbank in 1985. The style indicates a link between Burnsall and the Viking settlers from Ireland. Many Anglo-Scandinavian crosses and tombs were set up in the Burnsall churchyard from 900AD but a stone church wasn't built to replace the previous church until the 1100s.
